Project information
07Design concept
The central idea is a barrel-shaped working landscape. The vaulted roof forms a large atmospheric spatial framework, while the stairs become places to stay and observe rather than merely circulation.
Development
During the design process, the focus shifted from a pure hall typology to a spatially organised theatre workshop. The relationship between ground and upper floors, the internal subdivision, the large stair, and the structural resolution of the vaulted roof became decisive.
Construction and material
The structure consists of timber columns, beams, and regularly spaced roof ribs. Slotted steel plates and dowels connect the members. A ventilated corrugated weathering-steel skin creates a raw industrial contrast to the warm, exposed timber structure.
